Leather and horn crafting
Crafting leather and horn has been a crucial part of ancient Kyrgyz nomadic culture for millennia. Resources were scarce and nomads used animal skin and horn to make essential items such as hunting bows, horse whips, clothes, boots and household implements. The process of leather tanning and crafting can take many months and this dying artis now leftin the hands of a select few master craftsmen in Kyrgyzstan.
Kayirbek comes from a family of leather tanners who has practiced this craft for over 300 years. He still uses ancient techniques he learned from his forefathers to craft a variety of implements,household items and even weapons from leather and horn he harvests from the Kyrgyz mountains.
